Homemade Big Mac

Straight up, the Big Mac we ordered from McDonald’s had these super thin and dry patties that didn’t even taste like beef. This homemade version takes 15 minutes and actually tastes like beef!

Ingredients

Burger Components

  • 200 g 85/15 Ground Beef (Split into 2 balls)

  • Salt

  • 2 slices American Cheese

  • Shredded Lettuce

  • 6 sliced Pickles

  • Spoonful finely diced Onions

  • 1.5 Sesame Seed Buns

  • Big Mac Sauce (ingredients below)

Big Mac Sauce

  • 50 g Mayonnaise

  • 20 g Ketchup

  • 5 g Mustard

  • Spoonful diced pickles

  • Sprinkle of Smoked Paprika

  • Sprinkle of Onion Powder

  • 5 cranks Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. Prep the big mac sauce; Set a bowl over a scale and add all the ingredients. Mix together and give it a taste! Adjust salt and other ingredients as needed.

  2. Form the ground beef into two even-sized balls and add a sprinkle of salt.

  3. Set a cast iron or carbon steel pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, drop one of the balls down and immediately smash with a flat metal spatula. Do the same with the other ball of meat. Let the burgers cook for 60 to 90 seconds to develop the crust. Scrape the burgers and flip it over to let the other side cook, another 60 to 90 seconds.

  4. Gather the bun, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and diced onion for assembly.

  5. To assemble, add the sauce to the bottom bun followed by the pickles, onion, and lettuce. Set the burger over top with the cheese and more sauce. Add the middle bun, the big mac sauce, onion, lettuce, burger, cheese, and top bun with more sauce. Enjoy!
